Emerson Climate Technologies Inc., a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), announced today the approval of R-407A refrigerant for Copeland Scroll® refrigeration compressors in medium- and low-temperature applications, per the approved operating range. With the approval of R-407A for Copeland Discus® compressors already in place, this latest approval for Copeland Scroll refrigeration compressors provides the industry with yet another option to use R-407A refrigerant in OEM refrigeration equipment.

   With the launch of these further developed Octagon® CO2 compressors 16 models ranging from 4.4 to 80 kW cooling capacity (–35°C/–5°C) are provided for sub-critical CO2 cascade applications. This new compressor series follows the K series which has been success - fully approved in CO2 projects worldwide since the nineties.

   The extremely solid drive gear design and valve plate construction have been specifically adapted to the requirements of CO2 which leads to a further increase in efficiency and operational safety. Besides the extension of the product range by tighter performance graduations, the application ranges of the compressors were expanded and standardised.

Contrary to the semi-hermetic and open type HS. and OS. compressor models for commercial and industrial installation, the compact screws are designed with a directly flanged on oil separator. The effort involved in installation is therefore comparable with that for semi-hermetic reciprocat ing compressors.
